How it works

Biochar is a plant-based charcoal produced by pyrolysis – a high-temperature heating process in the absence of oxygen. Its microporous structure gives it an exceptional exchange surface, capable of retaining water and nutrients like a sponge. Mixed into the substrate of your permaculture raised beds, it creates a network of micro-habitats where beneficial fungi and bacteria thrive, stimulating root recovery and improving nutrient bioavailability for your plants. It also regenerates humus in the soil for long-term fertility.

Benefits

  • Improved soil life: micro-pores shelter bacteria and micro-organisms essential to plant nutrition
  • Accelerated root recovery: promotes rapid root development after transplanting
  • Water and nutrient retention: reduces leaching and optimises nutrient efficiency
  • Humus regeneration: enriches the soil with stable humus for long-term fertility
  • Increased exchange surface: microporous structure maximises nutrient availability
  • Carbon sequestration: helps trap carbon in the soil, a virtuous ecological approach
  • Certified organic: NF U44-051, suitable for organic farming (EC 889/2008)

Usage & dosage

Recommended dosage: 500 g to 1 kg per m². Spread the biochar evenly on the substrate surface and work it in with a rake or hoe. For best results, combine with horticultural substrate or vermicompost to activate its agronomic properties. Suitable for permaculture raised beds, planters, tree and shrub planting, vegetable gardens and composting.

Composition

100% untreated pyrolysed wood. Per 1 kg: organic carbon 166.8 g, CaO 8.0 g, K₂O 2.46 g, P₂O₅ 0.47 g, MgO 0.86 g, Na₂O <0.43 g. C/N ratio: 556.0.
