Target pests & mode of action
Diatomaceous earth works purely mechanically. The microscopic particles, with sharp edges, cut through the waxy cuticle of crawling insects as they cross the powder. This damage to their protective coating causes progressive moisture loss and death by desiccation. Ants are particularly targeted as they follow regular paths and inevitably cross powder barriers. Diatomaceous earth is also effective against woodlice, earwigs and other unwanted crawlers.

How to use
Sprinkle a thin layer of diatomaceous earth along ant trails, around greenhouse legs, along permaculture raised beds and at greenhouse entry points. For maximum effectiveness, apply in dry weather: the powder loses its mechanical action when wet. Reapply after rain or watering of the treated area. Avoid inhalation during application.
Important: diatomaceous earth does not distinguish between pest and beneficial insects. Do not apply directly on flowers to protect pollinators.
