This heating mat is placed under the LED Seedling Incubator to maintain a temperature favourable for germination during the colder months. Essential from October to March, it ensures the seedling plugs stay above 10 °C – the minimum threshold required for germination of most vegetable species. Without it, winter sowings risk delayed or failed germination, leaving you without young plants to transplant when spring arrives.

Product details

  • Heating mat sized for the Myfood LED Seedling Incubator
  • Gentle, even warmth across the entire plug tray surface
  • Low energy consumption
  • Plug-and-play: no settings, no thermostat required

Role in the system

Seed germination is directly linked to substrate temperature. Most vegetable species require a minimum of 10 °C to germinate, and many summer crops (tomatoes, peppers, aubergines, courgettes) need 20-25 °C for optimal germination speed. In an unheated greenhouse or indoors during winter, plug temperatures can drop well below these thresholds, especially at night. The heating mat provides a constant, gentle warmth from below that raises the plug temperature by several degrees – enough to trigger and sustain germination even in cold conditions.

Benefits

  • Up to 80% higher germination rate: consistent warmth dramatically improves sowing success
  • Year-round sowing: start your spring and summer seedlings from October onwards, well ahead of the season
  • Even heat distribution: gentle warmth across the entire surface avoids cold spots and ensures uniform germination
  • Energy efficient: low consumption, designed to run continuously during the cold months
  • Simple to use: place under the incubator, plug in, done – no adjustment needed

When to use?

Use the heating mat from October to March, or whenever the ambient temperature around your incubator drops below 15 °C. It is particularly important for early spring sowings (February-March) of summer crops like tomatoes, peppers and courgettes, which need warmth to germinate quickly and develop strong root systems before transplanting.

Compatibility

Designed exclusively for the Myfood LED Seedling Incubator. Can be used with the incubator placed in a greenhouse or indoors.
