LED Lighting Module – Family Greenhouse

The Horticultural LED Lighting Module compensates for the lack of natural light in winter and autumn, allowing your crops to keep growing even when the days get shorter. The horticultural LEDs provide a light spectrum optimised for photosynthesis and can cover up to 90% of your plants' daily light requirements. A built-in control unit lets you programme lighting schedules. Combined with the Insulation Module and heating, it is the key to achieving true year-round food production from your Myfood greenhouse.

Role in the system

Plants need at least 10 hours of daily light for effective photosynthesis. From November onwards, natural daylight in Northern Europe drops to 7-8 hours – well below this threshold. Without supplemental lighting, most crops stop growing and some die back entirely. The LED Lighting Module bridges this gap by providing a light spectrum specifically tuned for plant growth: the right wavelengths to drive photosynthesis, chlorophyll production and healthy leaf development. It maintains continuous production of winter-hardy crops – mainly leafy greens (cabbages, spinach, lamb's lettuce, chard), alliums (onions, leeks) and herbs.

Usage tips

Programme the lighting from autumn (October) through to March, approximately 15 hours per day starting at 6 am. This simulates long summer days and keeps your plants in active growth mode. If you also have the Insulation Module and/or infrared heater, keep the upper shade cloth deployed: it reduces the volume of air to heat while the LEDs provide all the light your plants need – a combination that significantly reduces winter energy costs. Without LED lighting, do not deploy the shade cloth in winter as your plants need every bit of natural light available.

Compatibility

Compatible with Family 11, 15, 22 and 44 m² greenhouses. Works alongside all other Myfood modules: Insulation Module (winter heating), Summer Module (summer climate control) and Tower Extension Module (increased capacity). For complete year-round growing, combine with the Insulation Module and tank heaters.
