Role in the system

The root anchoring foam plays a dual essential role in your vertical growing towers. Its porous structure creates an ideal habitat for beneficial micro-organisms – in aquaponics, nitrifying bacteria convert fish waste into plant-available nitrates; in bioponics, they break down organic nutrients from liquid fertilisers. At the same time, the density of the material provides robust physical support for roots to grip, develop and bear the weight of the growing plant. This is particularly important in Family towers (152 cm) where plants grow taller and heavier than in the City format – fruiting crops like tomatoes, courgettes and cucumbers can put significant strain on the foam during peak summer production.

Maintenance and replacement

At the end of each growing season, remove the foam from the tower, pull out the roots and compost the plant residue. A simple rinse with clear water is enough before storage – never use chemicals or tap water with chlorine, which would destroy the beneficial bacterial colonies. The foam can be reused for several consecutive seasons. Replace when it collapses, loses its structure, becomes too compressed or no longer holds plants securely. Signs it's time to replace: plants tilting or falling, roots passing through the foam without gripping, or visible foam disintegration.

Compatibility

Specific format for Family greenhouse vertical growing towers (152 cm). Compatible with Family 11, 15, 22 and 44 m² greenhouses. For the City greenhouse, use the City format root anchoring foam (112 cm). The two formats are not interchangeable.
